Fun toy!!!!! Feb 23, 2010 I got this cake puzzle for my 3 year old niece's birthday. She loves real birthday cake so I thought she would like this, and she does. Her 2 year old cousin likes it also... they play with it and have a ball. I am so glad I purchased it.
Wonderful Fun for toddlers! Jan 25, 2010 My daughter received this shortly after she turned 2. The KidKraft brand was new to me so I did a little research. It turns out the funny light-colored wood constructing this toy is actually Rubberwood, " now advertised as an 'environmentally friendly' wood" per Wikipedia. NOT a pressed formaldehyde-laden wood composite (unless it is compressed rubberwood??). The KidKraft site also seems pretty on-the-ball in my opinion as far as safety is concerned.
We play with this toy most every day, it keeps my intelligent toddler entertained for longer periods of time than many of her other toys. It acts as a puzzle and the candles are a blast to take apart and 'blow out'. Im certain she will enjoy this for a long time. Oh, its prettier in person.
Will never buy Kidcraft again Jan 10, 2010 I bought this for my toddler daughter, who loves play food. We only buy wooden toys for her, and I liked this cake better than others I had seen. I am quite disappointed. It is not solid wood, but pressed wood (I'm assuming made with formaldehyde). After only a couple days of light play, the paint is chipping off and the pedestal broke off. If you want real wooden toys, go for Melissa and Doug, Haba, or Plan Toys.
